Linear Motors - Fast, precise and accurate movement

Contrary to the overwhelming study of force production in an isometric situation whereby the muscle is not allowed to shorten a more physiological approach is to measure force while letting the muscle go through its natural movement.  This is the case for skeletal muscle in isotonic and eccentric contractions but also the cyclically stretched 'hollow' heart muscle in an afterloaded contraction.  To allow these measurements we developed a linear motor, specifically designed to keep up with these special applications.  In addition we developed control units to guide and implement the typical experiments used to quantify properties of skeletal, heart and smooth muscle.  For the cellular level we developed a length controller based on piezo crystals, so you can repeat all those tests in intact muscle on a single myocyte.  Thus getting the core of differentiating muscle defects from structural non-muscle changes in intact muscle.

Among others the described technologies are used in the following SIH products:

MOTTEST - Linear motor for muscle research
Muscle Cell Tester - single muscle research platform

MT Muscle Tester - a comprehensive system for testing myomechanics in all types of muscle
MKB research system - Muscle research system for intact and skinned muscle fibers
FiberMic - an inverted microscope based muscle research system
